Montgomery County Library began as a collection of 1200 volumes housed in a Conroe School Recreation Center, operated by a women's group known as the HUB Club, until it became a County entity in 1948. After a fire destroyed much of the Library's collection and current building in 1980, a new building was finally approved in 1991. The Central Library you see today opened to the public in the summer of 1994, and today serves more than 73,000 cardholders.
