Does it cost anything to get a library card?

Your first library card is free!

What does "Privilege Has Expired" mean?

This message means your library card has expired and needs to be renewed. Library cards expire every two years, and they can be renewed at any of our locations with your valid picture ID. Library cards cannot be renewed online.

What is my PIN number?

The PIN number is automatically set to the last 4 digits of the phone number on file for your account.

My online temporary card has expired. What do I do?

Please visit one of our locations with your valid picture ID to be given a full privileges library card. You will not be able to apply for another temporary card.

I lost my card. What do I do?

Please visit one of our locations with your valid picture ID. It will cost $2.00 to replace the lost card.

My contact information has changed. How can I update it?

Please visit one of our locations to make any changes to your account information.

Where can I use my library card?

Library cards can be used at any MCMLS location, as well as certain Harris County and Lonestar College library locations.

Why can't I access my account online?

Either your card has expired or your library fines are over the $25 limit. In either case, please visit one of our locations for assistance.

When can I get a library card?

Cards are issued during open hours, except for 15 minutes prior to closing time.

I just got a replacement library card. How can I access my eBooks?

If you are using OverDrive, please contact your library so that staff can merge your digital checkouts and holds with your new card number. If you are using Hoopla, you can go to Settings > Library Settings in your account to change your library card and PIN number.

How do I view my account online?

You can view your holds and checkouts under My Account on the top menu. We also have mobile apps for managing your library account.

Can I take a picture of my library card and just use that to checkout?

A picture of the card or card number cannot be accepted. By policy, a current photo ID is the only alternative to access the account without a physical library card present. You may access a MCMLS account one time with a valid photo ID. The second consecutive time you would need to purchase a replacement card for $2 or bring your library card with you.
